I got another Kat! Check this out; a 1982 (MFD In 10/81 - taken from chassis VIN) GS1000S with ZERO miles, as new, it's never had gas in the
tank! Someone answered the ad I placed on your page and I couldn't refuse. Here's the story, the original owner purchased one Kat in early 82, he liked it so much he bought another
for a spare! He specified to the dealer not to gas it or put a battery in it, (it does have oil in it, new '82 oil). He declined the test drive & took it home on a trailer. It
stayed in heated storage until he sold it, along with the other one to the second owner in 1995. I purchased it 5/1/99 from the second owner. It's quite awesome, same Bridgestones
as on the Tamiya model, and one strange thing that even I didn't remember, the passenger portion of the seat is blue! Not grey. This bike still has the original shipping plastic on
the seat, but the strap is outside the plastic & it's grey. as soon as the sunlight touches the "blue" seat, it must fade immediately. The bike is also very
documented, colour copy of the original title, colour copy of last title, warranty owners card w/serial number etc, in a postmarked Suzuki letter, also the serial number matches
the CC's, it's number 998! The original dealer is also searching for the invoice for me.
Got the "new" Kat cleaned up. It's unbelievable, the Bridgestone Mag Mopus tires still have the yellow line in the tread, the inspection stickers and nipples all over.
The valve cover gasket, only slightly visible is still white. I've never seen a (82) US Kat with 140 mph clocks, the answer is it's got a build date of 10/81, so it had to meet the
countries standards in the year '81, not '82. Also it's got a fibreglass fairing, most are ABS. Both previous owners sold it to send their kid to college (very good reason not
to have kids - you have been warned -Ed). It's beyond pristine. |

My 1982 GS1000SZ (CV carbs) with a friend's Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport in far Eastern Oregon. It was a three-day, 1000 mile ride in which we spent
most of our time running from thunderstorms (good excuse for high speed as any). The weather finally caught us on the way back into Seattle.
In 1981 - 82, the US had a strange Reaganite law that required 85mph speedometers fitted to all vehicles sold here - even a 108hp Katana! One of the few accessories I've got on
the bike is a digital bicycle speedo in order to see how fast I am actually going. On this trip, the magnetic sensor blew off the front wheel at 122.8mph - a fitting tribute to Mr.
Reagan.
I've replaced the front springs and rear shocks with Progressives, other than that the bike is original.
