Big Kat 1 was my first Katana, a UK spec GSX1000S with slide carbs. The photo above was taken in 1984/85 with my two nephews on board. I was
forced to sell this bike due to extreme poverty.
While living in the USA I bought Big Kat 2. This is a US spec GSX1000S with vacuum carbs. It was bought in Portland Oregon from a little tubby geezer with way too much money who
was about to take it to the racetrack for a little fun...... It came to live with me in California for the next 3 years before it made a damp sea voyage in a wooden crate to come
and live in even damper Ireland. I bought some slide carbs for this one last year through MCN but haven't fitted them yet. I also have stock shocks and pipes but they are still
wrapped up too. It's location now is in about as cosy a place as you can get....our sitting room, behind the sofa, next to the radiator. The wife says that this has got to change,
and I agree with her so I'll move it to in front of the sofa. We plan to add some more miles to the 16000 on the bike by getting out and about a little more than we have. |

Little had been done to her, except for the addition of Mazzochi shockers (returned to the originals eventually) and a MEGACycle 4-2-1
exhaust system.
Here's the girl, letting her hair down after a beach party, Burleigh Heads South East Queensland. She was killed, by a Nissan PATROL the end of June 1993. RIP. |

A pic of my old 1000SZ. Bought pretty much as it is in 1995. I've put about 15,000 miles on her, replaced the Harris (which fell off in
France), and worn through more Metz than I care to remember - average life of rear is 2500 miles! Engine is now over 50k, and smokes, lots. Will be 'restored' to presentable
condition in time! |

This is a picture of my GSX1000 Katana that I have just finished restoring. This was a major task that took two years (mainly due to me
having to source parts from around the country) and started from a couple of boxes of bits. The frame was resprayed as was the bodywork etc. I totally stripped the engine, blasted
it, etch primed it, painted it then reassembled with new gaskets, seals and polished stainless bolts throughout. The cylinder head was ported by a guru! Some teething problems had
to be over come such as leaking cam chain tensioner etc. New parts were always bought when available. I am going to try to show the bike off this summer! |

Heres my Kat, Its a 1000sz, 1983, unrestored. Had it for 3 years now and always sourcing parts. Got the seat from a great guy in Germany.
Shoxs nearly new from Canada. Exhaust system came from Miami! So its a bitsa but I only use original Bits. Just love to ride, it may not be a modern sports rocket but I reckon its
a lot more fun. So many people refuse to accept its 20 odd years old, wish they said the same about me!! Great site and thanks for all the help guys over the years. |
