Subject: 650G not running well Posted by: murph, bath, United Kingdom | Posted: 21/06/2010 |
My 650G has been laid up for the best part of 10 years but now back on the road after some (paid for) loving attention. But not nearly enough fuel is getting thro below 4ooorpm without thrashing her although the carbs were stripped and apparently in good nick. This makes for very slugggish pick-up in normal use. Does anyone have experience of this and/or tips I can try? Many thanks

Very common fault with all bikes laid up and the float bowls not drained. The fuel has evaporated but the additives haven't and so turned to varnish blocking the jets and through ways in the carbs.
The only sure way is ultrasonic cleaning and new jets.
Your pilot jets are blocked this is indicated by the lack of performance under 4000, after which you are on main jet.
NRP in manchester do new jets in kits

| thanks, really useful reply. even though they were apparently checked, cleaned and OK'd you're never sure unless you did it/saw it yourself. I'll look into jet kits - have you tried them and how do you rate over U/S cleaning (know anybody that does this also?)? |

| Ultra sonic cleaning is really the only way to be sure all the passage ways internally are cleaned , that said 650/550 carbs are old school if you like so they are more forgiving than say 250./400 Kat ones which are modern and smaller alleys. |
