Subject: what katana have i got?

hi, i was told my 1982 katana 1100 was imported to aus from canada, i am wondering how you can tell the origon and specs from the chassis number. its number is GS110X-102942.

G'day Stuart,
Did the bloke/ lass who told you that say why they thought yours is a foreign market machine? There are differences between the various markets, so perhaps they saw some minor North American feature and jumped to conclusions?

Easy rule of thumb
gsx1100sz katana, all silver with silver frame and engine, some really early ones have the 20 bolt early rocker cover with the kidney shaped breather cover but most have the modified 24 bolt rocker cover. All SZ models have the large square chunky fottrest rubbers and suede effect blue/grey seat.
GSX1100 sd katana from 1983, black painted motor, two tone silver/blue or silver/ maroon paint with two tone matching vinyl seat,all SD models have the later slimmer alloy/rubber footrests and have modified front engine mounts |
